What does marketing really mean and why should it be important for your company?
The current definition of marketing [noun] is the strategic functions involved in identifying and appealing to particular groups of consumers, often including activities such as advertising, branding, pricing, and sales. Thank you, Google.
With this definition, we can say that marketing is making yourself (or your company) more desirable to whoever you’re trying to sell to.
This can include applying for a new job, promotion, networking events, attracting investors – basically anyone or anything you have to prove yourself for.
It’s basically figuring out what you do well and how you can use those skill sets to help you or a friend achieve something.
This all makes sense right?
So then keeping all this in mind, it’s safe to say video is the BEST way to market yourself and your business.
Here’s why …
Video Helps You Build Genuine Relationships
What better way is there for someone to get to know you than to talk directly to them? I guess the one exception would be meeting in person …
But the second best way to reach the most people and develop genuine relationships is by talking directly to them.
Your audience can see your face, they know who you are and what you do. It’s easy to be transparent and tough to be fake when communicating over video.
Videos Provide Lasting Value
Videos are like pine trees. They’ll always be green, regardless of the season.
Well unless they’re cut down, poisoned, deprived of water, or global warming finally catches up. The point is they’ll always be green and videos are the same way.
It stays green for years. If someone were to watch one of your posts today, your video will provide the same value to that person if they watched it 10 years later.
It retains its value over long periods of time and you only need to record it once.
Think about it. So many places are still using instructional videos filmed wayyyy back and it shows. But they still use them because those videos work. Your content can be the same way, just higher quality and less grainy.
Communication in Video is Clearer
Has this happened to you?
You’re texting with a friend or relative and you tell a joke. But since tone isn’t translated over text easily, they end up taking it the wrong way or getting offended.
That’s because, and I’ve just started to learn this, sarcasm and jokes are lost over text or writing. So you have to be painfully clear with what you mean to avoid confusion.
But it’s different with video because it’s very similar to speaking. Actually, it’s essentially the same but the speaker can’t immediately respond to the listener.
This offers several advantages.
The first being that there is less meaning lost across platforms. People can more easily understand your tone and facial expressions to determine what you mean.
The second is people actually learn and retain more information when they see AND hear. Guess what videos provide? Both.
So based on what you learned, what’s the best way to market yourself and your business?
How can you use your skills and knowledge most effectively to market yourself and achieve your goals?
The answer is by using video.
Either through Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, or all the above, video content is the BEST way to promote yourself and your business. There’s no doubt about it.
But what if you don’t have a strong online presence and don’t think you could put out content like that?
That’s okay, I can help you.
And what if you already have traction online but don’t have the time to consistently push out video content?
I can help with that also.
